Guide Dog Foundation and America’s VetDogs Elects New Board Member


FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Smithtown, N.Y.  (December 15, 2020) – The Guide Dog Foundation and its sister organization America’s VetDogs, are pleased to announce the election of Andrea McCarren, of Washington D.C., to serve on their boards of directors. The boards provide counsel and oversight to advance the organizations’ mission to provide guide and service dogs and training – free of charge – to people who are blind or have low vision, and to those who have served our country honorably.

McCarren is the Vice President and Chief Content Officer for PenFed Digital, sharing stories of inspiration, resilience and service through PenFed Credit Union’s social media platforms. Andrea is passionate about community service and currently raising her fourth service dog. Ace, of America’s VetDogs, will eventually serve a veteran or first responder with a disability. Andrea’s career includes covering the White House for ABC News, where she traveled weekly with the President on Air Force One. She served as a DC-based correspondent for NBC News, where she covered the White House, Pentagon and Capitol Hill. Andrea also served as a local reporter and news anchor in Miami, Portland, Oregon, Wichita, and Savannah. She began her journalism career as a researcher for CBS News in London. Her reporting has been recognized with 23 Emmy Awards, three Edward R. Murrows, a Gracie for her coverage of the military, and dozens of other local and national honors.

The Guide Dog Foundation and America’s VetDogs boards of directors comprise volunteer leaders from the medical, business, academic, and military and veteran communities. Members of the board of directors set strategic direction and policy, and help raise awareness of the organizations’ services.

The Guide Dog Foundation was the first assistance dog school in the United States to be accredited by both the International Guide Dog Federation and Assistance Dogs International.
