Daniella Levy & Alanis
My name is Daniella, and I was born with congenital glaucoma. When I was 13 years old, I could see color and light. But before long, I was completely blind. I had a family who loved me. I got a good education. Still, I wanted what all people do—the possibilities of freedom. And a white cane just didn’t give me the security and mobility I needed.
That’s why, when I was 19 years old, I called the Guide Dog Foundation. I believed one of their specially trained guide dogs could give me greater independence and help me
find my way. The rest is history! I know I made the right choice. It’s a choice I’ve made five times over the more than 30 years I’ve used a guide dog. What makes me keep coming back to the Foundation are the great matches I’ve received, the great training, and the freedom I enjoy each day. In fact, I have more freedom than I imagined. And I’m very grateful to good people, like you … for giving me the gift of Second Sight.
I love living in the city. Great restaurants are a block away. But there are also challenges, like navigating busy streets and sidewalks. Thank goodness I have Alanis, my newest guide dog. She’s like a wonder dog. With her by my side, I have much more autonomy. Meeting people is easier, too. People love to ask me about her!
I wouldn’t enjoy all the freedom I have without the Guide Dog Foundation, and I don’t see myself ever without a guide dog. I would recommend one for anyone who needs one. But to make that possible, the Guide Dog Foundation needs more support from friends like you.
