Transport Driver - As Needed (Hourly)

Overall Summary:
Under the direct supervision of Assistant Manager of Volunteer Services Manager for NY-based staff, driver will operate all types of Foundation vehicles including but not limited to minivans and cargo vans to safely transport puppies, adult dogs, people and supplies to various locations as needed. Responsibilities include regional and long-distance ground transports including but not limited to VA-NY and the reverse trip. Duties also include trips to veterinarians, prison pup programs, pickup/drop off of working dogs, trips to airports to pick up or drop off people, supplies or dogs with Puppies in Flight transports or cargo transports.

Specific Responsibilities:
Transports: Safely drive and handle a minimum of 10-20 puppies and adult dogs to local or long-distance locations, as assigned, alone or with an additional transport driver. Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs., and leash-walk puppies and dogs to give breaks at designated stops. Works safely at all times and follows all established safety guidelines and procedures. Familiar with computer (Microsoft windows programs such as outlook and word), GPS systems and mobile devices. Must phone the contacts at the next stop as directed prior to arrival at each destination.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum of three years of experience in driving cargo vans and minivans.
• Reliable and Punctual.
• Clean driving record is required and must be maintained.
• Must be able to work flexible hours- nights, weekends as needed.
• Clean and neat appearance.
• High school diploma or GED required
• Must read and speak English sufficiently to communicate with the general public.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to establish rapport with office staff, graduates, co-workers and public.
• Organized to handle required paperwork regarding dog information, licenses and vehicle
• Maintenance logs and registrations.

Physical Demands:
The employee is required to:
• lift, push, or pull dog crates weighing up to 30 pounds.
• leash-walk energetic dogs weighing up to 85 pounds
• stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor
• drive for extended periods and/or travel
• lift 50-80 pounds frequently, on a daily basis
• exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally
• exert up to 10 pounds of force to move objects

Visual Acuity:
• Near acuity and accommodation are required for ability to read form, text and copy of written materials for publishing and to read computer screen.

Working Conditions:
The employee is subject to daily outside elements, traffic, airport noise levels as well as inside kennel noise. Employee is exposed to office environment and kennel environment, which would include cleaning and antibacterial solutions in kennel. Employee is also exposed to animal dander and hair in confined areas such as vans and kennels.

Additional Information:
The hourly pay rate for the position is $17.50 per hour.
