The Position: Chief Marketing Officer; America's VetDogs & Guide Dog Foundation

The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) serves as a member of the chief executive leadership team and is an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the Guide Dog Foundation and America’s VetDogs multi-channel marketing strategy.

In partnership with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CMO is responsible to establish and execute the strategic vision to expand and enhance the visibility and mission of each organization to support the strategic growth of two national high-profile not-for-profit organizations. The CMO is responsible for the organization’s core marketing and communications strategy with a focus on strengthening awareness, brand recognition and reputation to foster growth and fundraising efforts.

This is a dynamic and creative opportunity for someone with a proven track record of building high-profile brands that will lead a dedicated team. This leadership role will drive the vision, strategy, and execution for all elements of an integrated multi-channel marketing effort, including media, brand, content and thought leadership, campaigns, digital marketing, events, public relations and strategic communications, brand licensing, SEO and data analytics.


Serve as a thought leader and strategic partner to the CEO on brand strategy, revenue generation and data analytics.
Create new relationships with national broadcast and other high profile marketing partners.
Continued professional development of a cohesive 5-member marketing team able to achieve organizational goals.
Grow print, online, broadcast and social media footprint.
Continue successful support of all existing and new fundraising revenue strategies.
Continue to develop celebrity influencer program to further GDF/AVD message via their social channels and special event opportunities.


• Work with other members of the chief executive leadership team and direct reports to advance GDF and AVD’s mission, vision, and values, set strategic goals and support implementation through Directors and Managers.
• Engage with the Board of Directors and committees as directed by the CEO.
• Drive strategic thinking, development, ideation, and execution of integrated marketing strategies through channels including website, social media, industry marketing, tradeshows, events, PR and campaigns. Monitor progress to goals.
• Lead development of brand messaging, positioning, and overall narrative to ensure consistent communication of the brands both internally and externally through all key brand touchpoints including programs such as:
              o Management of HTML-based websites including an understanding of creating accessible content
              o Capture and creation of brand video content for all marketing channels
              o Creation of email newsletter campaigns
              o Creation of branded content including the management of organizational retail stores and vehicle branding
In conjunction with the Director, manage the day-to-day activities of the marketing team, including the creation of marketing content and collateral, in-house design, and cross-departmental support
Drive marketing team through data-driven insights and results and provide periodic status and progress reports to CEO and board of directors
Assist with creating strategy for industry and media exposure including press releases, award submissions, and speaking engagements
Develop and manage marketing plans/budgets to meet brand goals
Deploy resources toward organizational goals
Promote clear communication and collaboration between departments to facilitate strategic vision
Strengthen existing and source new opportunities and partnerships
Maintain awareness of safety rules and procedures, ensuring that the functions of this job are done in the safest possible manner and encouraging staff and co-workers to do likewise
May perform other specific tasks or duties as assigned by the CEO


A minimum of 5 years executive leadership experience managing and overseeing the strategic development of a multichannel marketing plan.
Demonstrated experience managing a dedicated team to include professional development and mentorship.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral with the ability to represent the organization externally across a wide range of stakeholders and constituencies.
Experience in developing marketing strategies. An ability to present information based on analytics
Forward-thinking with passion and drive –but not afraid to get your hands dirty. No task is too small. Ability to think on your feet, lead your team and change course quickly while doing multiple things at once
Ability to set clear priorities and have the ability to rebalance based upon market direction and performance.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in related field (e.g., Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Business). Master’s degree in marketing or business a plus.
Must have the ability to respond to complex situations, requiring tact and diplomacy and to effectively present information to top management and board of directors.
Must have the ability to represent the organizations to the public and to key constituencies.
Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and early mornings.
Local, regional, and national travel required.
Position is highly sensitive and requires impeccable personal and professional ethics, integrity, and discretion.
