Charlie - "Wait"
Charlie has been learning the Wait command which Olivia uses when she comes to a doorway to help refocus Charlie before going through the door as well as anytime she needs Charlie to pause for just a moment. Olivia reinforces Charlie for giving her eye contact with this behavior to acknowledge that he has completed the behavior appropriately. Stay tuned for what Charlie is learning next!
Learning the wait cue is a valuable tool for handlers when needing their service dogs to pause for a moment when getting things in order to continue on or when moving through doorways. Managing opening a heavy door and making sure that both they are their service dog make it through safely is a challenge to many handlers and a patient dog helps keeps the situation calm.
