Touch

We've been having fun working with Charlie on a behavior called Touch.  As you can see, Olivia presents her open palm so Charlie can touch it with his nose.  This basic behavior is an easy first step towards future behaviors that Charlie will learn (like turning on a light switch or bringing an item to someone).  We love Charlie's enthusiasm with this behavior and are excited to show you how Charlie uses it as he grows into a service dog.

Touch is an introductory behavior service dogs are taught to help them learn how to use their nose to make contact with a person's hand.  This behavior leads into other tasks as the dogs grow such as pushing an automatic door button or alerting someone with hearing loss that a sound is happening in their environment.
