Guide Dog Foundation Receives Accolades

The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind was recently evaluated by the BBB Wise Giving Alliance and has met all of the organizations stringent standards for charitable accountability. The BBB Wise Giving Alliance collects and distributes information on hundreds of nonprofit organizations that solicit nationally or have national or international program services. It asks such organizations for information about their programs, governance, fund raising practices, and finances.

The BBB Wise Giving Alliance was formed in 2001 with the merger of the National Charities Information Bureau and the Council of Better Business Bureaus Foundation and its Philanthropic Advisory Service. The BBB Wise Giving Alliance is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization, affiliated with the Council of Better Business Bureaus.

Since 1946, the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind has provided guide dogs free of charge to people who are blind and are seeking enhanced mobility and independence.

The cost to complete the training of a guide dog/person team is over $30,000. This includes all expenses from breeding and raising the dog to training and matching it with a student. The Guide Dog Foundation is supported by donations from generous individuals, corporations and foundations, businesses, and service/fraternal clubs. The Foundation is proud of its reputation as a charitable organization and consistently receives high marks from charitable watchdog organizations, such as Charity Navigator.
